Understanding Parole Violations
Parole violations come in all shapes and sizes.
A Motion to Revoke Parole (MRP) can be issued as a result of a minor misunderstanding between the parolee and the probation/parole officer, new criminal charges, or a number of other reasons.
Some examples of minor misunderstandings can include an event as simple as a missed phone call. A more serious example can be a new criminal charge.
Imagine being granted parole after 2 years of a 10 year sentence, but being stopped by police only for them to find drugs that a friend left in your vehicle. An event like this, or even a 1st time misdemeanor DWI, could result in revocation of parole, new criminal charges, and being forced to serve the remainder of the original sentence.
We’ve seen people lose their parole privilege for a number of reasons, and we’ve helped just as many to remain free. If you need to talk with an experienced attorney in Houston about your options with regard to parole violation cases, call Joe.
The Blue Warrant
If your parole officer has reason to believe that you’ve violated your community supervision or supervised release terms, they may submit a violation report to the parole division. A decision will be made about whether or not to issue a warrant to detain you, pending an administrative hearing.
If a warrant is issued for your re-arrest it will be published to the National Criminal Information Center’s database (NCIC) where it will visible by law enforcement officers nationally. In short, any encounter with police can result in your arrest for parole violation.
